Wednesday is Troop night. It was also the night Webelos II from my former Pack and another were going to be attending. It was also the night for a Board of Review for a Scout. I have done several Board of Reviews in the former Troop and also many Eagle Board of Reviews so the process is not new. However, tonight it was the first time I got to review a Scout that I was a Tiger Den Leader and Cubmaster for.
He is now in 7th Grade and still as active as he was in 1st Grade. Plays Soccer, La Crosse, Baseball and Basketball. He goes on most if not all campouts. There is not a question that he was not ready for 2nd Class.
When asked about what he wants to do in the Troop, he responded with “Someday, I would like to be SPL.” He also said he would like to be APL, PL, and ASPL. When asked what he would like to see the Troop do differently, he replied ” Mini-Philmont trips in the area.” He likes hiking and backpacking. He also added that he would like to see the Eagle Scouts come back and help and not just go away. (Just to point out many of the recent Eagles have aged out and headed to College.)
The Scout still views himself not as an Older Scout, but as a Middle Scout. We reminded him that his recent work on the Patrol Campout he was there helping the Newer Scouts with a lot of the Tenderfoot basics via the EDGE Method.
For me, it was great to see the process of his journey within Scouting and how Scouting has affected his life.
